The video work 64M3R5NxV follows the streamer ‘massextinktion’ on his live play-through of the online game and net-art project www.nexusvalley.io by Joscha Steffens. The game itself is an archive in cyberspace. An interactive atlas mapping events, human encounters, coordinates and fandom data bases. The videowork 64M3R5NxV lets the viewer take part in the experience of diving into the game through the eyes of a streamer. The works depicts the entire one-hour-long live play-through experience of the first level. In this work Joscha Steffens reflects upon the development of a new mainstream culture that developed out of the fascination and devotion of “loners”, “computer nerds” and other types of outsiders. A gang of high-level professional nerds that can no longer be seen as such. 64M35NxV lets you get close to the mysterious and intriguing characters of the virtual gaming world and invites you to follow those hybrid creatures in and outside of their natural habitat.
